Fasting Food in Vatra Restaurant’s Menu

This year, according to the Orthodox Calendar, Lent began on March 14th and it ends on the night before Easter, on April 30. As we all know, Lent the longest and the toughest of all four Christian fasts, being a 40-day period of abstinence both spiritual and material.
Spiritually, Lent represents a soul cleansing period, all Christians must show a heightened spiritual care. Material, it means quitting the food of animal origin (meat, dairy, eggs) and including more vegetable dishes.
If you are a person willing to respect the Church’s recommendations, Vatra Restaurant can offer you several fasting products.
Among the most appreciated appetizers and side dishes, there are the eggplant salad (stove-roasted eggplant, seasoned with onions and tomatoes), the white bean dip (mashed white beans, mixed with garlic and stir-fry onion), zacusca (roasted vegetables spread: bell-peppers, eggplants, onions, tomatoes and carrots), grilled mushrooms, Wallachian, boiled or mashed potatoes, grilled vegetable, rice with vegetables or vegetable bouquet.

If you would like to eat something lighter, try the vegetable soup or the wonderful salads seasoned with pickles or fresh vegetables.
For the dessert lovers, we have a genuine Romanian apple pie, thoroughly prepared as a fasting product.

Let aside the religious motivations, the fasting period may have lots of benefits on human health: lower blood sugar, body detoxification, strengthening the immune system by increasing vitamin intake and, of course, weight loss, because of the low calorie food consumed during this period.
Whatever your motivation, come to Vatra Restaurant for authentic food, joyful atmosphere, people with an appetite and delightful Romanian food flavors, that you can only find them again in our grandparents’ homes. (Vatra Menu)
