10 Benefits of a Glass of Wine Every Day

Regardless of culture, people or time, wine was always seen as an indispensable drink for men: we use wine in baptize, we celebrate with wine, we drink wine with every opportunity. Louis Pasteur himself said, in one of his moments of reflection, that “There is more philosophy in a bottle of wine than in all books.” And researchers in health fields did not need much persuading to seek benefits or, conversely, the dangers of a glass of wine over our bodies.

Wine is rich in antioxidant compounds beneficial to our health and contains a large amount of minerals (potassium, calcium, magnesium) and water-soluble vitamins (B1, B2, B5 and B6), and to a lesser extent, folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin C. It is also rich in resveratrol with proven antioxidant properties. Moderate consumption helps preventing heart disease and boosts the immune system , producing energy and a better memory functioning.

Here are the benefits of a daily moderate consumption of wine :

1. Resveratrol is very beneficial to keep a healthy skin, with a real anti-aging effect. It helps increasing good cholesterol (HDL) and has anti-inflammatory properties. Also, resveratrol is found to be an effective protector against Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

2. People who consume 1-2 glasses of red wine daily show 44% fewer colds than those who do not drink wine.

3. Excessive alcohol consumption is generally harmful for the body and it is considered a high risk for hypertension. However, two glasses of red wine (250 ml) served during meals decrease blood pressure.

4. Regular consumption reduces by 30% the risk of heart disease.

5. Melatonin found in a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese or Chianti served before bedtime helps improving sleep all night long.

6. Red wine may prevent the onset and progression of atherosclerosis . Both alcohol and polyphenols found in red wine favors the formation of nitric oxide with very important role in adjusting the vascular tone.

7. Although in a small amount, wine also contains fluoride – a mineral that prevents tooth decay and keeps the tooth enamel.

8. Potassium helps adjusting the heart rhythm, the levels of blood sugar and energy production.

9. Marinated in red wine for just two hours, grilled meat can have up to 88% fewer carcinogens.

10. However, the most important reasons for drinking wine remain digestion improvementappetite stimulationand anxiety reduction , creating favorable conditions for socializing with friends, but also with unknown people.

Being able to drink wine is a true science, Voltaire said. You may not know how to savor a glass of wine like a realsommelier, but you definitely know that moderation in food and drink it is a true virtue. Therefore, we recommend limited consumption to one or two drinks a day (200-250 ml) to benefit from all its positive effects. Wine abuse may have adverse effects: drowsiness, headache, hypertension, palpitations, therefore it is not recommended for people with liver problems or pregnant women.
